I’ve been meaning to write this post about our recent trip to Maui. I must still be on island time…
The hubby and I recently celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary in Maui. The focus of our itinerary was to relax. That meant eating lots of local Hawaiian food, enjoying happy hour, and lying around being beach bums. We were able to do just that, even with Harrison along with us :).
From the moment we landed at Kahului Airport (OGG), we got exactly what we needed- a vacation! We began our trip staying at Honua Kai Resort and Spa. The amenities are modern and everything my family needed to make our stay comfortable was available in our suite or on the resort grounds. As for our 1 bedroom suite, it was perfect! We enjoyed the ocean views from the comforts of our large lanai. For most of the day, we kept the balcony walls fully open to truly enjoy the indoor-outdoor living experience. When we weren’t at Baby Beach or enjoying Maui’s Aquarium, we were enjoying the resort’s baby lagoon. In fact, this trip was Harrison’s first swim experience! He loved the water- he kept splashing around his hands and babbling away with excitement!
Due to some mishaps in reservation, we weren’t able to stay the full week at Honua Kai. We finished off our Maui vacation staying at the adjacent resort, Ka’anapali Beach Club (KBC). Our experience at KBC was just as wonderful as our prior resort. We were upgraded to their 2 bedroom ocean view resort which was huge!
Both resorts are wonderful and family friendly. I would gladly stay at either one again. Honua Kai is a five star resort that is fully updated and modern. For that luxury, it comes with a steeper price point. KBC’s resort is probably a 4 star (however, they are currently under renovation) and is a more affordable option. Both resorts offer several dining options, recreational activities, are located on Ka’anapali Beach, and include modern fully furnished suites. However, KBC’s customer service outweighed Honua Kai’s. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. I especially am a fan of their “yes” philosophy, where they strive to say “yes” to their guest’s requests and if they are unable to do so, find a reasonable substitute to their request.
This was the first trip to Maui and after our experience, it is one I’d like to take my family on yearly. It’s a 5 hour flight from Los Angeles (LAX) and even though we live in a beach community, the Maui vibe is different from the OC beaches. Additionally, Maui seemed to be the perfect family friendly vacation spot. It seemed like everywhere I turned I saw a couple on their babymoon or a family pushing a stroller around ;).
